Lipari

The largest of the Aeolians: the castle on its rock, the white pumice of Porticello and the obsidian flow of the Rocche Rosse.

The rock and the museum

Lipari's Castle holds one of the Mediterranean's most important archaeological museums: the layered settlement sequence of the acropolis and the necropolis collections tell six thousand years of routes between Sicily and the Aegean.

The north side

Acquacalda and Porticello still live in the pumice landscape: white quarries sheer over the sea, and the Rocche Rosse obsidian flow, which you can walk up to the crater of Monte Pilato.
